It was her first time as a contestant ever to finish 2nd. Angelica Hale became very sick in 2012, when she was only 4 years older. She was diagnosed with double pneumonia due to an aggressive strep-pneumococcal bacteria infection. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston was forced to place Angelica Hale on ECMO Life-Support because she required life-saving medical treatments. Her kidneys did not recover after she developed an infection with septicae and eventually was diagnosed with several organ failure. Peritoneal dialysis, and then hemolysis became her new normal. After nearly 80 days in hospital, from the point of death to a long journey to recovery, she finally made it home but her life was forever changed. After nearly a year and half of dialysis, Angelica was ready for the largest surgery of her life-her kidney transplant. Her mother was the sole person who was able to donate an organ. Angelica and mom had a successful kidney surgery on September 13, 2013. The surgery was performed at Emory University Hospital and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston, two hospitals that are located next to one. Angelica Hale has been pursuing her dreams of being a star ever since.
